HISTORICAL NOTES

The weed burning tram was built in 1956 on the bogie of a withdrawn O class tram. It was used to burn the weeds on reserved track sections and was propelled by a scrubber tram. The tram was withdrawn in january, 1961 and is now preserved at the Sydney Tramway Museum.

The painting dipicts this tram on weed burning duties at the Randwick racecourse tramway platform also known as the dive. The weedburning is being propelled by a D class Scrubber tram.
