HISTORICAL NOTES

Badaling great wall is most visited section of the Great Wall of China, approximately 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Beijing. Built in the Ming Dynasty this section of wall was restored and was the first to open to tourists in 1957.

I visited the great wall in 2007 and this painting was based on one of the photographs taken on this trip.
