| This
painting depicts Post War R1 class tram 2055 heading for Coogee beach.
It has just left Railway Square where it commenced its journey and is
turning into Eddy Avenue, under the Railway Colonnade which carried trams
until 1957. R1 Class 2055 is now preserved by the Sydney Tramway Museum
at Loftus.
The tram in the distance
crossing Eddy Avenue on a purpose built tram-only bridge is heading for
Circular Quay. This bridge which ceased to carry trams in 1957 once again
carries light rail vehicles which commenced running in 1997, a gap of
40 years.
